The 3R's: Respite, Restoration, and Resources
The original vision for The Homestead Ministry was to create a safe
place for families to seek respite, restoration, and resources Its founding
was based on a seen need for families to seek these things through fellowship and counsel all in one place.
The goal of The Homestead is 2-fold; the
first to be a place for families to process, heal, and grow in family life
through interaction with horses. The Homestead understands that there is often
one or many pressing stressors in family life. The focus of The Homestead is on
strengthening relational ties within a family through a Biblical equine
approach without the pressure of formal counseling instead of focusing only on
the crises/issue. The second goal of the Homestead is to be a filter and hub
for the best-of-the-best tried and true additional resources available for
families. In being a resource hub, the hope is that families will not have to
spend copious amount of time and money seeking additional recourses for their
families.

We were out riding fence one day, my husband and I, talking and dreaming about the family ministry that laid so heavily on our hearts. We're dreamers, him and I. Riding up to one of the two abandoned houses on the property, the thought struck me. As broken and in shambles as a home might be, it is still the backbone, however weak or breakable it is, of every human life. What I would give to have a steadiness in our familial home lives. I turned to Luke and smiled, "The Homestead." He nodded in heartfelt contentment of agreement.
To be completely honest, we feel like two kids trying to run with this heartfelt dream. We both grew up in broken homes; I in a trauma filled adoptive home and Luke in a disengaged divorced home, both trying to escape the brokenness. In that escape we encountered the horse. An animal with intensified relational flight or fight tendencies. That's where we stopped running and fell into the arms of Jesus. Now we are just two 20 somethings with a few horses trying to figure out how be a home. All we know is that we want to provide for other families what we wish we had while our homes had shattered windows and busted walls. Respite, re-connection, and reconciliation in relationship. Not forced, not another therapeutic intervention, but a place to be.
